About Me
I'm Maarten and "Sometimes I Make" things
I've always been passionate about creating and building things.
In my daily job, I work as a web developer. Over many years, I worked on a diverse range of projects, from basic websites to large-scale web applications. What I like a lot about this line of work is the need for continual learning, which is also something I truly enjoy when making things.
I always had an interest for woodworking that has persisted over the years. Despite not having fully explored the craft, I find joy in creating functional things with wood. I recently started taking evening classes to get better at woodworking, so you will probably see more woodworking related projects.
Around a decade ago, I got really interested in Arduino and a little later the Raspberry Pi, realizing the power of merging code and hardware to create physical objects. My journey into basic electronics is both educational and enjoyable. I still have much to learn, but adding electricity to a project opens up a world of possibilities.
During visits to a local makerspace, I discovered the wonders of lasercutting and 3D printing, sparking my inspiration to unite all these diverse interests. Unfortunately, a hectic life prevented me from pursuing this consistently, leaving many of my project ideas as mere concepts due to limited time and resources.
A couple of years ago, just before the pandemic hit the world, I made the decision to build my own personal workshop. I invested in some tools, a lasercutter, and a 3D printer, granting myself unrestricted access to these resources whenever inspiration struck. I picked up on some old projects and started to work on new ones. Now I had the opportunity to continue working on my projects and I finally started to complete some of them.
Therefore, through this website, my aim is to share all of my creations with the rest of the world.
